Equipment

  • Medium saucepan
  • Blender or immersion blender
  • Measuring cups and spoons
  • Wooden spoon or spatula
  • Jar or airtight container (for storage)

Ingredients

  • ¼ cup unsweetened 100% apple juice
  • ¼ cup coconut aminos
  • 1 tablespoon apple cider vinegar
  • ½ cup filtered water
  • teaspoons yellow mustard
  • 4 Medjool dates pitted
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • ½ teaspoon onion powder
  • ½ teaspoon chili powder
  • 1 6 oz can tomato paste
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • Optional: 1 teaspoon liquid smoke for a smoky BBQ flavor

Instructions

Combine The Ingredients:

  • Pour the water, apple juice, coconut aminos, apple cider vinegar, mustard, garlic powder, onion powder, chili powder, salt, dates, and tomato paste into a medium-sized pot.

Cook The Sauce:

  • Set the pot over medium heat. Stir everything together until it’s well mixed. Once it starts to simmer, lower the heat and let it cook gently for about 10–12 minutes. Stir every few minutes to keep it from sticking or burning.

Blend Until Smooth:

  • Take the pot off the heat. Use a blender (or an immersion blender if you prefer) to blend the sauce until it’s completely smooth and velvety.

Add The Smoky Flavor (Optional):

  • If you want that classic BBQ smokiness, stir in a bit of liquid smoke once the sauce is blended.

Cool And Store:

  • Let the sauce sit until it reaches room temperature. Then pour it into a clean glass jar or any airtight container. Keep it in the fridge for up to a week, or freeze it if you want to store it longer.
