Equipment

  • Medium saucepan
  • Whisk or spoon
  • Measuring cups and spoons
  • Storage jar or bottle for the sauce

Ingredients

  • 1 cup apple cider vinegar
  • 1 cup ketchup
  • ½ cup dark brown sugar packed
  • ½ teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 tablespoon dry mustard powder
  • ¼ teaspoon cayenne pepper adjust to taste
  • ½ teaspoon kosher salt
  • ½ teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
  • 1 tablespoon hot pepper sauce
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce

Instructions

Combine Ingredients

  • In a medium saucepan, add the vinegar, ketchup, brown sugar, Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, cayenne pepper, salt, black pepper, mustard powder, hot pepper sauce, and onion powder.

Heat The Sauce

  • Place the saucepan over medium heat. Whisk everything together until the sugar dissolves and the ingredients are fully combined.

Simmer

  • Bring the mixture just to a low boil, then reduce the heat and let it simmer uncovered for about 10 to 15 minutes, stirring occasionally. This allows the flavours to meld and the sauce to slightly thicken.

Cool And Store

  • Remove the sauce from heat and let it cool. Transfer to a clean jar or bottle. It can be used immediately, but for best flavor, refrigerate and let it sit for at least 24 hours.
