Wendy's BBQ Sauce is a smoky, sweet, and tangy condiment made with ingredients like tomato paste, vinegar, brown sugar, molasses, and spices. It balances sweetness and heat with hints of garlic, onion, and hickory smoke. This sauce pairs perfectly with chicken nuggets, burgers, and fries, replicating the bold flavour of the original fast-food favourite.
In a medium saucepan, add ketchup, apple cider vinegar, molasses, honey, Worcestershire sauce, and soy sauce. Stir to combine.
Add Dry Spices:
Mix in smoked paprika, brown sugar, garlic powder, onion powder, ground mustard, salt, black pepper, and cayenne (if using). Whisk until smooth.
Add Liquid Smoke:
Stir in the liquid smoke for that signature smoky BBQ flavor.
Simmer the Sauce:
Place the saucepan over medium heat. Bring the mixture to a light simmer, stirring frequently to prevent sticking.
Reduce and Thicken:
Let the sauce simmer gently for about 10–15 minutes, or until it thickens to your desired consistency.
Cool and Store:
Remove from heat. Let the BBQ sauce cool completely, then pour it into a clean glass jar or airtight container. Store in the refrigerator for up to 2 weeks.
