Ingredients
  

  • 6 large ripe tomatoes
  • 1 cup water
  • 1 tsp lemon juice
  • ½ tsp black pepper
  • ¼ tsp salt
  • 2 tbsp sugar
  • 1/3 cup chopped onion
  • 2 –3 fresh basil leaves or a pinch of celery salt
  • 6 –8 drops Tabasco sauce or to taste

Instructions
 

Step 1: Get The Tomatoes Ready

  • Rinse the tomatoes well and cut each one into quarters. Toss them into a medium saucepan along with 1 cup of water, the chopped onion, and a bit of sugar.

Step 2: Cook Everything Together

  • Place the pan over medium heat and bring it to a gentle boil. Then lower the heat and let it simmer for 10–12 minutes, stirring now and then, until the tomatoes and onions become soft.

Step 3: Blend And Season

  • Let the mixture cool for a few minutes, then transfer it to a blender and puree until smooth. Pour it back into the saucepan, and add the lemon juice, black pepper, salt, basil leaves (or celery salt), and a dash of Tabasco. Stir it gently and warm it for another 2–3 minutes.

Step 4: Strain And Serve

  • If you want a silky smooth juice, strain it through a fine sieve. Serve it either warm or chilled, and if you like, garnish with a fresh basil leaf.
