Sallys Chocolate Cake Recipe is a rich, moist chocolate cake made with cocoa, eggs, milk, sugar, and hot coffee. It delivers deep chocolate flavor in every bite and serves twelve people. Easy to follow, this recipe produces a tender, flavourful cake that can be enjoyed plain, frosted, layered, or used in desserts like cake pops and trifles.
Set your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease two 9-inch round cake pans, line the bottoms with parchment paper, and lightly dust with flour so the cakes won’t stick.
Step 2 – Mix The Dry Ingredients
In a large bowl, sift together the flour, cocoa powder, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. Give it a good stir to make sure everything is evenly combined.
Step 3 – Whisk The Wet Ingredients
In another bowl, whisk the eggs, milk, vegetable oil, and vanilla extract until smooth and well blended.
Step 4 – Combine Wet And Dry Mixtures
Slowly pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients, stirring until smooth. Gradually add the hot coffee (or water) and mix until fully incorporated. Don’t worry if the batter looks thin that’s exactly how it should be.
Step 5 – Bake The Cakes
Pour the batter evenly into the prepared pans. Bake for 35–40 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean. Let the cakes cool in the pans for about 10 minutes, then transfer them to a wire rack to cool completely.
Step 6 – Frost And Enjoy
Once the cakes are completely cooled, frost them with your favourite chocolate frosting or enjoy them plain. Slice into and serve.
