Equipment

  • Medium saucepan (2–3 quart size)
  • Wooden spoon or silicone spatula
  • Measuring cups and spoons
  • Whisk
  • Heat resistant storage jar or bottle

Ingredients

  • 1 cup Jim Beam Bourbon whiskey
  • 1 cup packed brown sugar
  • 2 cups ketchup
  • 4 tablespoons apple cider vinegar
  • 2 teaspoons mustard powder
  • 1 dash liquid smoke
  • ¼ teaspoon cayenne pepper
  • 4 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
  • 4 tablespoons soy sauce

Instructions

Combine The Ingredients:

  • In a medium saucepan, pour in the Jim Beam bourbon. Add the brown sugar, ketchup, Worcestershire sauce, soy sauce, apple cider vinegar, dry mustard, and liquid smoke if you’re using it. Sprinkle in the cayenne pepper.

Mix And Heat:

  • Whisk everything together until the mixture is smooth. Set the pan over medium heat and bring it to a gentle simmer.

Simmer Slowly:

  • Turn the heat down to low and let it simmer without a lid for about 20 to 25 minutes. Stir every so often as it cooks. The sauce will start to thicken, and the alcohol will cook off, leaving behind a deep, rich bourbon flavor.

Taste And Adjust:

  • Give the sauce a taste. If you want it tangier, add a touch more vinegar. For extra sweetness, stir in a bit more sugar. Want more kick? Add a pinch more cayenne.

Cool And Store:

  • Take the pan off the heat and let the sauce cool completely. Once cooled, pour it into a clean jar or bottle. Store it in the refrigerator for up to three weeks.
