Equipment

  • Medium saucepan
  • Measuring cups and spoons
  • Whisk or spoon
  • Airtight jar or container (for storage)

Ingredients

  • 1 cup grape jelly any brand
  • 1 cup ketchup
  • 1 12 oz bottle Heinz chili sauce
  • 1 tablespoon dry mustard powder
  • 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • ½ teaspoon garlic powder
  • ½ teaspoon onion powder
  • ½ to 1 teaspoon chipotle powder
  • ¼ teaspoon cayenne pepper
  • 1 teaspoon liquid smoke
  • Salt and freshly ground black pepper to taste
  • ¼ cup apple cider vinegar
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce

Instructions

Mix The Wet Ingredients:

  • Grab a medium saucepan and toss in the grape jelly, ketchup, chili sauce, apple cider vinegar, Worcestershire sauce, and a splash of liquid smoke. Stir everything together so the jelly starts to melt.

Add The Spices:

  • Next, sprinkle in the dry mustard, smoked paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, chipotle powder, and cayenne pepper if you want some heat. Add a little salt and some black pepper too. Give it a good stir.

Cook It Down:

  • Turn the heat to medium and bring the sauce to a gentle boil. Then lower the heat and let it simmer, uncovered, for about 15 to 20 minutes. Stir it every now and then until it thickens up and the flavours blend nicely.

Give It A Taste:

  • Try a little bit and see how it tastes. If it needs more salt, vinegar for a tang, or extra spice, go ahead and add what you like.

Cool And Store:

  • Take the sauce off the heat and let it cool down. When it’s ready, pour it into a clean jar or container. Keep it in the fridge and use it within two weeks.
