Equipment

  • Medium saucepan
  • Whisk or spoon for stirring
  • Measuring cups and spoons

Ingredients

  • ¼ cup apple cider vinegar
  • 1 cup ketchup
  • ¼ cup packed brown sugar
  • 2 tablespoons honey
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • ½ teaspoon kosher salt
  • ¼ teaspoon cayenne pepper adjust to taste
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tablespoon mustard Dijon or yellow
  • 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil or vegetable oil
  • ¼ teaspoon chili powder

Instructions

Mix The Basics:

  • Grab a medium saucepan and pour in the ketchup, apple cider vinegar, brown sugar, honey, Worcestershire sauce, and mustard. Give it a good stir so everything’s combined.

Add The Spices:

  • Sprinkle in the smoked paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, kosher salt, cayenne pepper, and chili powder. Stir everything together until it’s well mixed.

Heat It Up:

  • Put the pan on medium heat. Drizzle in the olive oil and whisk everything until smooth.

Let It Simmer:

  • Once it starts to bubble gently, turn the heat down to low. Let it cook uncovered for about 8 to 10 minutes. Stir every now and then so it doesn’t stick or burn. This step helps the flavours come together and thickens the sauce.

Give It A Taste:

  • After simmering, taste the sauce and see if it needs more salt or a little extra kick with cayenne pepper. Adjust as you like.

Cool And Enjoy:

  • Take the sauce off the heat and let it cool a bit. It’s perfect for dipping grilled meats, fries, or veggies. If you have leftovers, keep them in an airtight container in the fridge it’ll stay good for about a week.
