Ingredients
  

  • ½  cup 1 stick unsalted butter
  • ½  cup ketchup
  • 1  tsp salt
  • ⅛  tsp freshly ground black pepper
  • ½  cup finely diced onion
  • ¼  cup light brown sugar packed
  • 1½  tsp chili powder
  • Dash of Tabasco optional, for heat
  • 3  Tbsp Worcestershire sauce

Instructions
 

  • In your saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat. Add onion and cook until tender and translucent, about 3–4 minutes. Stir in ketchup, brown sugar, Worcestershire sauce, chili powder, Tabasco, salt, and pepper. Mix thoroughly.
  • Bring the sauce to a gentle simmer. Cook for about 5–6 minutes, stirring frequently, until it thickens and becomes glossy. Taste the sauce and adjust salt or spice levels. If you want more heat, add a touch more chili powder or Tabasco.

Notes

Adds creaminess and helps the sauce cling classic and comforting. Prefer less sweetness? Use less brown sugar. Want more kick? Add chili powder or Tabasco.
