Equipment

  • Bundt pan (10-inch)
  • Large mixing bowl
  • Whisk or electric mixer
  • Frying pan or skillet
  • Measuring cups and spoons
  • Spatula
  • Oven mitts

Ingredients

  • cups French bread cubed
  • cups Potatoes O’Brien diced potatoes with bell peppers and onions
  • 1 cup diced ham
  • ½ cup finely diced onion sweet or yellow
  • 2 cups shredded sharp cheddar cheese
  • 12 large eggs
  • 1 cup whole milk
  • ½ teaspoon garlic powder
  • ½ teaspoon onion powder
  • teaspoons kosher salt
  • ½ teaspoon ground mustard optional
  • Freshly cracked black pepper to taste

Instructions

Get The Oven Ready:

  • Start by heating your oven to 350°F (175°C). Then, grab a 10-inch bundt pan and grease it well with butter or spray so nothing sticks.

Cook The Potatoes And Onions:

  • Heat a skillet over medium heat and cook the diced Potatoes O’Brien along with some diced onions. Keep stirring until the potatoes are soft and the onions look clear and tender this should take around 8 to 10 minutes. Once done, set it aside to cool a bit.

Mix The Main Ingredients:

  • In a big bowl, combine the cubed French bread, the cooked potatoes and onions, diced ham, and shredded cheddar cheese. Gently toss everything together so it’s evenly mixed.

Make The Egg Mixture:

  • In another bowl, whisk the eggs with milk, garlic powder, onion powder, kosher salt, ground mustard (if you’re using it), and some fresh black pepper until it’s all blended nicely.

Combine Everything:

  • Pour the egg mix over the bread and savory ingredients. Carefully fold it all together, making sure every piece of bread is soaked and everything is mixed well.

Fill The Bundt Pan:

  • Spoon the mixture into your prepared bundt pan. Press it down gently to fill in all the nooks and crannies and make it compact.

Bake:

  • Pop the bundt pan into the oven and bake for about 50 to 55 minutes. You’ll know it’s ready when the top turns golden brown and a toothpick stuck in the middle comes out clean.

Cool And Serve:

  • Let the bundt cake cool in the pan for about 10 minutes. Then flip it out onto a plate, slice it up, and serve warm. Enjoy!

Notes

This bundt cake works best with day old bread it absorbs the egg mixture beautifully without becoming mushy.
Adjust your bake time slightly (plus or minus 5 minutes) depending on your oven’s quirks and always keep an eye on that golden top.
