Ingredients

  • 2 cups fresh or frozen blueberries
  • 1 cup ketchup
  • ¼ cup apple cider vinegar
  • 2 tablespoons molasses
  • 2 teaspoons smoked paprika
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar
  • 2 tablespoons honey
  • ½ teaspoon cayenne pepper
  • ¼ teaspoon ground ginger
  • ½ teaspoon onion powder
  • ¼ teaspoon black pepper
  • Pinch of salt
  • ¼ cup water
  • ½ teaspoon chilli powder
  • 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce

Equipment

  • Medium saucepan
  • Wooden spoon or spatula
  • Blender or immersion blender
  • Measuring cups and spoons
  • Airtight jar or container (for storage)

Method

Combine Ingredients
  1. Place all the ingredients blueberries, ketchup, vinegar, molasses, brown sugar, honey, water, Worcestershire sauce, and spices into a medium saucepan. Set over medium heat.
Simmer
  1. Stir well and bring to a low boil. Reduce the heat and let it simmer without a lid for 20 to 25 minutes. Stir occasionally until the sauce thickens and the blueberries have broken down.
Blend
  1. Take the pan off the heat. Blend the sauce until smooth using an immersion blender directly in the pot or transfer it to a blender.
Strain (Optional)
  1. If you prefer a smoother consistency, strain the blended sauce through a fine mesh sieve to remove any solids.
Cool And Store
  1. Allow the sauce to cool completely. Pour into a sealed jar or container and refrigerate.

Notes

Sauce thickens as it cools. Thin with water or vinegar if needed. Adjust sweetness or tanginess to personal preference.
