Instructions
Prepare The Brisket:
Trim excess fat from the brisket if needed. Pat dry and season with salt, pepper, and celery salt. Preheat your oven or smoker to about 275°F (135°C).
Make The BBQ Sauce:
In a mixing bowl, combine ketchup, apple cider vinegar, brown sugar, molasses, Worcestershire sauce, mustard, smoked paprika, chili powder, onion powder, garlic powder, black pepper, cayenne (if using), liquid smoke, and water. Whisk until smooth.
Cook The Brisket:
Place the brisket in a roasting pan or slow cooker. Pour half of the BBQ sauce over the brisket, coating it evenly. Cover with foil (or lid if using slow cooker) and cook low and slow for about 2 to 3 hours, until tender.
Finish The Sauce:
While the brisket cooks, melt butter in a saucepan over medium heat. Add the remaining BBQ sauce and simmer gently for 10-15 minutes to thicken and develop flavor. Adjust seasoning if needed.
Serve:
Once the brisket is tender, remove from the heat and let it rest for 10 minutes. Slice thinly against the grain, and serve with warm BBQ sauce drizzled on top or on the side.
